The hike up to Alum Cave Bluffs in the Smokies must have been visited by C.S. Lewis before he wrote the Narnia Chronicles. This is truly a fairytale land hearkening back to the beginning when only a footpath worn by fellow travelers crossing the mountains was the only sign of human visitors. The roots of the old tree have held open the path for hundreds of years. Around the bend from this vantage point is an opening to a grassy, rock strewn bald expanding the view for miles. The fire bushes lit my path as I trekked on towards the cabin at Mt.LeConte.
