Think back on that special place you where were lost in wonder. You forgot about time, responsibilities and deadlines. Nature has it's own healing properties such as these. Transporting us into a space that leaves us breathless if only for a short reprieve. We leave only because we must but with each experience, we take with us one overwhelming reminder of the time we spent there. For me it was the fragrance. It is always cool at this altitude even in the heat of summer, yet not high enough to loose the incredible vegetation. The cool moist air was enough to insure that I stayed a while but the flood of cedar, evergreen, pine that permeated the space around me was truly the "take away" for me. I can't look back at this remote path without reliving the scent of Christmas, clean pure air welcoming me in as it it were created just for me. As time separates me from the moment, I have come to think it was.

Beautiful commentary on a beautiful place, Dan. The photo is full of that alluring mystery that gives us little shivers--the recognition of something miraculous going on in the process of the forest's unfolding.

Thank you for your wonderful and very generous comment on my work, Dan! I look forward, as well, to sharing our images and perceptions on our blogs.

Thanks Lynda...some of your images invoked those same feelings as well.

The path through the woods
Is the journey of mindscapes.
It reminds me that nature
Maps new pathways
By the turning of the seasons,
That starlight, tumbling over
Star-frosted branches lightens
The way of the midnight wanderer.
And all that we imagined
In the moment of wonder
Will be the riches of our future
When the sunlight dawns.

Hi Dan,

So sorry I haven't been in touch sooner - hideous school schedule and lots of shows on, students making films to deadlines, and all the other peripheral time munchers that come with being a teacher.

Anyway, thanks as always for letting us share such beautiful images.

I hope you're enjoying your new President. He's certainly given a lot of hope to those of us in Europe.

All the best,

Sacha

Sacha,
Good to hear from you again. I figured that you have been busy. I am going to print out your poem and mount it next to the framed photo posted...great job!

I think many of us are approaching Obama with cautious optimism. If all holds true that he promised, it would be great...It is that I am just a bit skeptical of politicians. But I do wish him well and hope he can deliver...he has his work cut out for him.

I love this photo. It invites me in and I just want to sit there; take it all in, like you've written.

I just read tonight of a similar setting that Helen Keller found herself in, not able to see it as beautifully as your shot but she was able to speak it, to smell, to sense it all and portray it beautifully...as you have here, Dan. Very nice.
