I hope everyone had a great Memorial day with family and loved ones.

I had a great holiday...On Monday I was in heaven! I went to my first Revolutionary War re-enactment. Everywhere I looked was one great image after another. I took about 8 gigs of pictures...probably about 800 or 900 photos. All the participants of course were in character and stayed in character the entire time.

I thought this was one of the more interesting moments. I was actually trying to take a picture of another subject but when the mother and her daughter passed by, they stopped me in my tracks and I was memorized. It could not have been better if I would have posed them. Such a perfect moment of how the children of the time had to help with the work, even the youngest of the family had their burdens to carry. The saturated colors reminds me of an old postcard.

I will posting pictures of the re-enactment all week so put on your three cornered hat, grab a quill pen and get ready for trip to Revolutionary America. It's gonna be a great ride! I am even going to post some accident photos...out of focus and blurry but sometimes what you don't see let's your imagination fill in the blanks.

I absolutely love this picture of the little girl dutifully following her mama. The encampment must have been so interesting. My son's school participates in a Revolutionary War Encampment each year. I helped pitch a few tents one year. We all got dressed up to get in the spirit.

Lovely!! I bet you had a wonderful time. I can't wait to see more pictures. It's interesting isn't it? How spoiled we've become? I remember whining as I did my chores at home. Loading the dishwasher, folding clothes. What easy tasks compared to the ones even the smallest children helped with back then!

Neat! I bet that is a real experience to be able to take part in an encampment. I would love to do it. After talking to many of the participants, some do this full time and travel America to keep history alive for us...they certainly did for me.

Heather you are so right. It really does make you appreciate the soft life we have now. It had rained the night before and the mud made for some dirty tent floors...no vacuums, no swiffer sweepers...just hard work.

Dan, this made me smile. Great photo :o)

Man-o-man, you are going to be one who is busy - sorting through, admiring and placing special touches on all of those photos. Hope you find some time for visiting :o)

You're right, the details are fantastic! Even better because you can't see faces, makes you look at things you might not otherwise notice.

Shabbygirl,
So many of this weeks upcoming pictures are about noticing the details or lack thereof...I have had a lot of fun working on the photos for this week. I mentioned to Simply Heather a while back that the one thing that I wanted yet to photograph was a re-enactment...I finally got the chance and was not disappointed!

Well, your teasing me, now.
I LOVE the lady taking the wash out (along with young daughter who will, it seems, be sitting on her stool nearby)...while I have done well to resist painting your photographs, this time it won't get out of my headbone.
It won't be a copy, but, as I hang my own clothes out for drying (if I'm gonna talk saving energy, I'm gonna walk saving energy) I have ideas of how I will set it up.

It just looked so...comfortably Summer. Thanx for the neat photography!

Please DO paint the photo...I would love to see it when you are finished...be sure to let me know. I don't look at that as copying at all...I look at it as a compliment and I really appreciate the effort to try to paint it....GO FOR IT!

Dan,
When I first glimpsed the photo as the computer page was loading, I thought, "...where in the world has he been, now?" Well, right here in America. Isn't that amazing? It looks so other-worldly...and sure enough, it was another time, and place...I love everything about this photo...the mother with the photo-copied little girl, the fabric, the allusions to hard-work and hard-times, the strength of carrying the wooden tub on the head, the expectations of the small child... the fabric wrinkles, the fabric itself....all absolutely fantastic.
Thank you!
Cynthia
