The nicest thing about photographing in a wooded environment is your office has no walls, no telephones and no one to interrupt your work. Your hours are flexible and in bad weather, you don't have to show up.

Seriously at least for me, the nicest part as photographer is the light that always filters through the canopy. Without the different shades of of light, the the forest would look flat and uninviting. The light can draw your eye into areas that you would not go into alone.

The one element I miss that a videographer can use is sound. The sound of the rushing water in this image really added to the mood. If you had the elements of sound and smell with the crisp pine aromas and musky fragrance of the wooden trough...you could truly experience in entirety the beauty that nature surprised me with that day in the forest.

Where was this picture taken, Dan? It reminds me of a place I've been. Actually, I'm thinking of the woods behind an old homestead in the Smokies - Cades Cove area, I believe. There's a plaque out front with a picture of the woman who lived there.. I wish I could remember her name.
Although, I'm sure that is a quite common site - it just took me back to some good memories, walking through the woods in Tennessee.
Beautiful as always.

Heather...WOW...you DO have a good memory and you know the area well! Yes this was taken in Cades Cove just beyond the Cable Mill. It is at the far end of the water trough taking water to to the Mill. And yes there is a restored house/cabin there as well and it does have a plaque on the outside telling the story of a woman who settled here...GOOD JOB!

Gorgeous picture! Love the mossiness around the water. When we went up to the canyon last weekend we took the camera that has sound and recorded the creek. As we were leaving, we saw a sign that said audio equipment was not allowed. Isn't that strange?

What a lovely place to visit.

That is the strangest thing I have ever heard! I can't imagine why they would post a sign such as that. I wonder what the reason could be?

you know, I put it on first, but the more I looked at the picture, I couldn't help but to hear birds, and bugs, and even poked a critter rustling through the underbrush.
Too much, wasn't it?
