They're Baaaack!

Each year, I think I have enough pictures of hummingbirds, then they return and it is like I have never taken a picture of them before. So many options to catch these beautiful creatures. Do I use a fast shutter to freeze their fragile but powerful wings mid flight? Do I shoot them while they are feeding? Do I capture them in mid flight? Yes to all! These creatures of God are one of my favorites to photograph. I swear, they act like they enjoy being in front of the lens. Before the summer is finished, you will have seen enough of these pictures...I tend to overdo it with Hummingbirds! Hey, we all have our faults!

I don't know that I could have too many hummingbird shots, from you, Dan. Honestly, I don't have this opportunity enough...to see a hummingbird up close, still and beautifully looking at me.

This is a blessing - your talent and patience to wait for them.

Good Sunday Morning Heather! Spring for me is a magical time after the onslaught of Winter and before the dog days of Summer.

They are like God's little tinkerbelles! Amazing little creatures.
On our back deck we have a frosted dome-like skylight that a hummer will get trapped in. All they have to do is drop down and fly off, but they just try to go up. We have to get out a ladder and grab them to lower them enough so they can see to fly out. Poor things.
This is a fantastic shot by the way!

can't fault you at all for hummingbird pix.
but, dang it, my cheap digital sticks.
Can't click too late or they're gone.
Like a deer and her fawn.

Well, the very few I do
have gave me insight to
the fact that they are fast!
Blink an eye, and they are passed.
But, how much easier to paint, at that.
Blurred wings, curious dog, and the hapless rush of a slow cat.

HA!
And I thought my camera was slow!

Shabbygirl...
It must be the nature of hummingbirds. They will fly into our garage and the door can be open but as you said, they try everything but the open door...we have to help them out of the garage.

Boneman...
Great poetry...something I wish I was better at....let me rephrase that...saying "better at" indicates some talent...I have no talent for poetry but I love to read it!

Hummingbirds are such little miracles of creation. I love seeing photos of them, amazing and magical.

Septembermom,
They ARE miracles of creation. To be as fragile as they appear, they are able to do some unbelievable gymnastics!

Dan,
Wonderful. I don't think I'll be able to have an overdose of these little creatures. :^)
My favorite hummingbird memory is of camping in New Mexico when Aubrey was about 8 or 9. There were so many of these little guys fighting over one feeder that they did not care what else was going on. Aubrey stood very still by the feeder and they would land on her fingers and just sit. It was the coolest. I think I have a photo. I'll have to dig it out.
:^)

To catch one on film is a kudos event...if you can capture mutiples..

Go with my blessings (as long as you share!)

Cynthia,
That is really neat. I have seen pictures of hummingbirds landing on people's hands before...I have never been that lucky.
