I am plagiarizing on this one.A couple of weeks ago...Simply Heather had a most intriguing photo of a master key on her blog. So this is her idea...Heather, I stole your idea! But I will add my picture.
Old keys have always held a special place in my curiosity. I have sets of keys from years ago...forgotten now what they belonged to but it must have been important at the time...after all, it needed to be under lock and key. These old keys belonged to my wife's father. He passed away at 80...these keys must be seventy or more years old and probably to a house he grew up in. Keys like this were needed then for privacy...not to keep burglars out. Because they were "skeleton" keys, they would fit many doors, unlike today...we use keys to stay safe.

your photo captures a string within my mind. I think it's the idea that it is accessible. I dunno.
I still have a skeleton key on my keys. That way, when folks ask me how old my car is, I can pull it out and show them.
Ooooohhh...I've always had a fascination with the old skeleton keys...not sure why, originally, but I guess now it's the nostalgia.

Oh you...you didn't really steal my idea, you created it (hahaha). I love the old keys too, always have. This is a great photo, Dan. 'Course, you know I'd like it, anyway...I like all of your photos.
These keys have just reminded me, too...
When I was a little girl, these were the keys that unlocked our home. Yup, it's true. I can still remember my mom placing the key in the lock (wow).

Congrats on the win at PPP. The newspaper story was great. Anyone with teenagers can totally relate. Our oldest is 26 now (God, I'm getting old!!) and well beyond this stage, but I remember it well. He calls now just to say hi and not to ask for money. A true evolution!
Patty...they do remind me of those big old keys someone in a swashbuckling movie would pull out with both hands and open a massive door to the tower where the fair maiden is held!

Cynthia...it used to fascinate me as a kid that a "skeleton" key would open several doors...I never understood how that could be!

When we were first married (first house we ever bought)we lived in an old farmhouse and it still used these old keys such as these.

The home I'm renting is old... now sure exactly how old, but all of the bedroom and bathroom doors still have the old locks for those keys. I love that the landlord redid a lot of the inside - new flooring, new appliances, added a bathroom - but left the orignal doors.

Many of the old houses still have those old locks...nice thing about them is that if you can find even one of these old keys...it will probably still work for all of the doors! Sounds like you have a neat place!

Hey Dan, great subject. Your HDR treatment works well with this subject and is extreme enough to make it a feature (rather than just being overzealous on the eye-candy effect).
