I seem to be on a farmhouse kick right now!

However, this one is quite different than what I have posted before. Even though it is indeed an old farmhouse...you can see what happens to one of these remnants of the past when taken care of. Even though it seems this house could be on a tree lined street in some small town, it is actually located in the middle of an open field with wheat and corn on all sides. I liked the iron fence that set the home apart from the rest of the fields. It was like an oasis ...green grass, trees and a small barn in the middle of a sea of gold.

This farm has been in the same family for generations...unique today with the onslaught of the high stakes corporations overtaking the family farms. Kudos to the family who has fought off the temptation of easy money in order to maintain an independent spirit that made this country what it is today...although for how much longer...I don't know. To this family...blood is still thicker than money.

Love the play of light and shadows on the house. Great photo. Keeping these timeless structures preserved really is an admirable undertaking. I love how your photos give personality to these buildings.

Your description of the surroundings of the house make me think of resting in a chair under one of the trees with a tall glass of lemonade in the late afternoon, after working the fields all day.

Thanks Septembermom...are you felling better?

These old buildings do definitely have their own personalities and they are probably a reflection of the families who live there.

Shabbygirl,
I'm with you on that one. I am quite sure that the porch and the trees have been used for that over the years. And as you said...the rest was probably well deserved.

You just keep on with the farmhouses and barns - I love them! This house could belong in another book I'm working on - an old lady lives alone in a big old farmhouse, surrounded by an iron fence. Too cool!

Bobbi...take it and run with it! Good luck! I love the creative interpretations.

Really nice, Dan. It reminds me of my grandparent's farmhouse. The porch on the side-back of the house was exactly like that, with the columns...there was a pine tree right outside of it that the kids used to climb...
But I LOVE that iron fence! Very decorative and unique.

Cynthia,
That is why I like this house so much...it is so typical of the farmhouses in the Midwest.

Wonderful photo--and comments, too. Even without the words, the photo evokes that sense we have of what we wanted the past to be. What it was for some people. What we wish for all.

Jennifer...
Very well put. Are we being just naive in wanting some of the values from the past? I would hope not...I think we can still grab hold of these values even with today's hectic lifestyle. It all comes down to priorities.

This house sort of reminds me of Anne of Green Gables. The fence and stuff... I just love that!

Dani,
I am googling Anne of Green Gables as we speak! I want to check that out.

Also...HAPPY BIRTHDAY TODAY!

I like the photo in the stark beauty of B&W. Somehow, it adds age and dignity to the home that a color photo might have lost or taken away.

It could be something as simple as being used to seeing older buildings in older photo's all being in B&W and this creating an internal filter in my head...

But, I like the look anyhow.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the comment. I had a hard time deciding whether to post the color version or the back and white. I always have a difficult time deciding when I create a B and W version...they both have different perspectives to offer.
