Last week I posted the barn in "A league of their own"...this is the house. In the movie, interior shots show the kitchen area if I remember correctly. I have not ventured into the house as yet but I intend to. I am sure it looks quite different now than it did in the movie! Nature has now begun to reclaim the entire farm. It had been about year since I was here and just within the year, there is a lot more damage to the house and outbuildings. It will live on in the movie but not in reality.

Oh, Dan, I love this house!! It reminds me of the old farm house my grandparents lived in when I was a little girl. That house is long gone and I wish I had a photo to remember it, but have yet to find one in all the family photos. For me, there is just something out old buildings that touches something deep inside me.

Absolutely beautiful, Dan. I love it. So much character---knowing what glory it was in at one time...and now...quiet, reposed, serene, and full of stories.

Bobbi,
When we were first married, we bought an old farmhouse and lived in it for about 5 years. But at the time, we didn't have the money to fix it up...I wish I had that old house back now!

Cynthia,
You are right...so many stories.

Memories float around old houses. There is something romantic and genuine about seeing a structure worn by time, almost forgotten. A house that would speak volumes to the interested passerby. The photo is marvelous.

I really like your phrase "memories float around old houses" ...that puts into words my feelings about old houses but I couldn't express it that well.

I read somewhere about how the elements just take over things...OH! I think it was the One Minute Writer winner about an encounter with nature... She talked about how nature goes one in spite of all the things man does to prune it back. If our presence were removed for even a single year, it would reclaim everything as if we hadn't been there to begin with. I thought it was a pretty interesting thought. That's what this reminds me of.

There is an interesting series on ...I think the Discovery or Nat Geo channel running right now. It is about what would happen if man would disappear from the planet. They start with one day after he is gone and goes to several thousand years out. They pick places like New York City, Las Vegas etc....the outcome is really interesting. I don't know if you have seen that or not.

Thanks for stopping by. I think that is one of the aspects that draws me to this type of image...being able to speculate on it's past.

Love the photo. It reminds me of the area of NC I'm from originally, where my grandparents lived and theirs before them. How I love old places. A bit of Miss Haversham adds a lonesome beauty that pulls at the heart, I think.

Also, your post on Pictures, Poetry and Prose is hilarious. And so so true (my daughter is 25). Love it.

Thanks for stopping by. Dickens would be proud! I have spent a lot of time over the years in parts of North Carolina and Tennessee in the Smokies and I believe it started my obsession with old houses and history of the land.

With a 25 year old....it sounds like you have also been through that "stupidity" phase! Doesn't it feel good once it is over!

And it will live on in this photograph - a stunning photograph, too. You can just see all the memories stirring around. They never leave, do they?

Patty,
As you know...that is the nice thing about photography...it can help preserve the past for future generations to enjoy.
