I am more of a dog person than cat person...but I saw the calico cat sharing my love of porches!

The porch caught my eye but the calico drew my attention to the window. Safe and secure behind the glass, the cat was surveying the passers by with the intensity that only a cat can display. Was the cat waiting for someone to return home or just the innate curiosity prompting it to see what the world outside its' domain had to offer?

From observing for a few minutes, my guess would be that it knew that around 5:30pm (time of the picture)...its' master was returning home from work as he does each day at this time. Soon there would be the dish of cold milk...its' reward for patiently waiting...the lap, to settle down on beside the book light and the joy in knowing its friend had returned home.

Dan, I don't know if I'd have seen the cat there...if you hadn't mentioned it :)

Really neat!

It caught me by surprise as well! I was looking at the porch and the cat moved...then I saw him.

Like Heather, I didn't notice the cat at first. This is such a wonderful photo. I love old porches too.

Or perhaps cats know when a camera is around. They do, you know?

Being a cat person, I know that they know.

Great shot.

Wow, I didn't see the cat either, but then once I found him, he was all I could see.

Did you know milk is bad for adult cats?
:)

I like how the cat blends into the porch atmosphere. A loyal friend waiting for his friend (or maybe an adventurous bird:)

Thanks Tricia...porches are one of my favorites...so many personalities can show through a porch...what they display, what kind of chairs, the view....

Jen...Thank you...I learned something! Since I am not a cat person...I did not know that! Here is an interesting list of things we should not feed out cats and milk is one!.... http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=1&aid=1029

Septembermom...good point. Since the cat is calico...it does blend with the other colors of the porch!

I have a friend whose cat often sits in the window by the front door overlooking the porch, just like that!

I think it is something about cats...surveying their territory.
