Kilroy was here!

It is the end of July and that means County Fair time in the Midwest. This odd conglomeration of animals, tractors, cotton candy, the midway and politicians has not changed a bit over my lifetime! I frequented the county fair each year while growing up. I gamed quarter horses and the fair was my venue to compete...4H at first, then as I grew relatively older...moved to the big time..."Open Class". The same competions still go on..The Vanderburgh County Fair Queen is a cute as ever, the garden vegetables are still waxed and perfect, the talent contests still leave a bit to be desired and the Midway still hosts the fun house. Tractor pulls, country singers and "the" horse show still takes place in full view of the grandstand.

One thing I noticed on the fun house wall was the depiction of "Kilroy", upper right hand corner. On the link above, you can find out what is unique about this. He has been around since World War II and is found by different names all over the world. Train cars and underpass walls now sport graffiti...perhaps Kilroy was the forerunner of it all.

See you at the fair...don't forget to bring your camera...there are always some unique happenings in this altered reality we call "The Fair".

Cool!

Actually, our county fair is coming up this weekend and I was just looking over the schedule of events; just before I peeked in on you, Dan.

You can be sure that Canon will be tagging along with, probably pulling the leash just like a dog :)

Septembermom...this time of year...you can almost open a map and blindly point your finger to any area and somewhere close by you will find a Fair!

I hope you have a wonderful time at the fair! Ours doesn't come until late autumn. It's always a fun atmosphere!

Love this. The town I grew up in was (and still is) the site of the state fair. I haven't thought about that for a long time. Great memories-- thanks.

Tricia...now is the time to reconnect to the State Fair! Although it sounds like it would be a sweltering State Fair out there right now!
