Newburgh Country Store

This is not a fabricated cracker barrel or a tourist trap in Gatlinburg but a true iconic slice of history in Newburgh Indiana...about 10 minutes outside of Evansville. The store is what every "Country Store" aspires to be...a place where you can spend your time lost in the wares of yesterday. Now in it's third generation...the same family has owned and operated the store for over 50 years. Walk in and you will leave with rock candy, snow shoes, straw hat or just a more complete understanding of 1800's rural America. Each of you has a store similar to this in your home town...reflecting your town's past. Next time you pass by...stop in and see your great grandparents' nessecities that they rode horseback maybe over a day to pick up while in town.

The owner of the store was kind enough to let me intrude and take pictures of this Southern Indiana landmark...Thank you Nathan!

There are probably so many interesting things to choose from in that store. Love the photo. It's nice when a store is still in the family after so many generations.

This is great. I would love to be able to spend some time there. So much of Americana is lost every day. I don't think there is appreciation for it as there once was. Too bad.

There was a sparser version of a store like this near my grandparents house. If we helped to dust furniture on Friday, we earned a quarter to spend there. That's when penny candy was really a penny, so we could make quite a haul.

But don't go at 1pm, the owner closed the store for his afternoon nap!

Hey Dan...we have a store here in town that has been there since the town became a town in the 1800s...the ownwer jokes that he's been there since then too. Every Saturday the sitting area is filled with old men one-upping each other. It is the most awesome thing ever.
When I first saw your pic I thought it was the general store in Luckenbach, Texas. Ever been there?

You are right...I think "Americana" hit its' peak a while back but the history is still there to be experienced.

Lost is the word! This is only a small part of the two story old building.
