An oasis in the midst of concrete and high energy urban frenzy...Central Park is an island unto itself.

In the park, there are multiple tunnels leading from one part of the park to others. Each time I passed through one of the tunnels...I was reminded of the concrete jungle I had just left (although I enjoyed it). It is truly like passing from one world to the next. The stark contrast is striking. One minute I was among throngs of people moving in a wave down 5th Avenue...stepping off the sidewalk treadmill now and then to buy a brat from a vendor or window shopping at Sak's...the next minute I was emerging into a land of lakes, horse drawn carriages, carousels and walking paths through pastoral settings. As I looked ahead of me, I could swear I saw C. S. Lewis' Lamppost guiding my way!

There is almost an ethereal, magical quality to this photo. Wonderful! We're visiting Central Park in a couple of weeks with the kids. I'm sure that I'll remember your thoughts about this other beautiful world sitting right in the middle of the busiest city in the world. It should be a fun day.

Septembermom...If I remember correctly...you live just north of the city??? I am sure you have been to Central Park many times. I love the city and all it has to offer...so cosmopolitan...yet Central Park also holds something for us Midwesterners as well! Enjoy the day!

I agree with Kelly, there is definitely a magical qualtiy to this one. It looks so inviting - like stepping through that tunnel could very well erase all of your cares, if only for a few mintues. If I were to ever find myself in the big city, I feel like I'd have to spend a good amount of time unwinding in the park. :)

Heather...
If you visit New York City...don't miss it...such a contrast against the towering buildings and crowds...both are great...just not all the time!

This is a unique shot...I love these kinds of captures, Dan; the taking of them and the getting lost in them.

Vermont Heather...
I like taking them also...from a different perspective. Often times a whole new feeling evolves from different perspectives.

Oh, I love this one... Love the perspective, coming out of the tunnel towards the light... And the lamppost is certainly very Narnia-like! :)

Dawn Trader...
I actually thought of you while posting this. You and I both have this thing about the Chronicles...glad you enjoyed it.

Glad I came back to this post! :) One thing about blog communication, it gets kind of fragmentary. One leaves comments around but often forgets to check back for answers...

Dawn Treader...I think we all do that. I will ask a question on a blog and then remember sometimes days later...oops...I need to check to see if there is an answer! Just as you said...the nature of blogging and moving from one site to the next...hard to remember it all!
