A quiet sanctuary within the deep forest...this old barn stood out to be the only sign of human contact within sight. I was standing at an overlook looking at a beautiful valley (Cades Cove Tn) surrounded by fertile mountains so lush that I could almost taste the oxygen they were giving off. I noticed off in the distance a clearing.

With the telephoto lens I could see this tranquil oasis amid the towering trees. It was a livestock barn. What a wonderful place to live if I were a horse...to have the whole valley to roam in and to be able to return to this shelter during the late afternoon thundershowers that crop up this time of year. It would be heaven for me...it had to be the same for the horses.

Have a great weekend.

A lovely display of autumnal colors painting the landscape. An exhibition of serenity in its natural form. *sigh*

Beautiful is all I can say....

Have a wonderful, relaxing weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Through your writing, I became that horse out in that clearing. Hear the grumble off in the distance? Time to head towards the barn.
What a beautiful array of colors, and a great shot!!!

What vibrant color and light. And of course as far as I'm concerned you can never go wrong with a barn in the picture. It does indeed look like something out of a fairy tale. You do weave a spell Mr. Dan.

Gorgeous. You're the second blogger I've seen post on Cade's Cove and my parents were talking about it last week. I want to go, and it's not that far away!

June,
When we loved in St. Louis...we made several trips to the Smokies...not a bad trip time wise. I hope you make it there soon. The nice thing about St. Louis was that one could choose either the Smokies to east or the Rockies to the West...both were do able for a week's vacation.

Tricia...you and I both share an interest in old barns. They just have so much character. Place them in a setting such as this and it makes my day just to be there.

So, so beautiful. As much as I've enjoyed summer, I cannot wait for fall's cooler weather and warm colors. I'm feeling a trip to Tennessee :)

Heather...I am with you on that one..I am probably headed back mid October! I am sure you will agree that the Rockies are as beautiful as the Smokies...they both just have a totally different feel about them.
