A stately old brick home on the waterfront. The wicker chairs are what drew me to this porch.
I love to observe people and what better place could this be. On the busy walkway just off the river walk, to be able to sit with a cold drink on a breezy summer day observing the locals would be a treat.
Old and young with their dogs out for a morning walk or jog, taking a few precious moments out of the busy day just for themselves. Lawyers, students, retirees, single, married...so many different lives playing out on the walkway.
After a brief respite...Summer has returned. After All...it is August 3rd!

I find this photo peacefully haunting. An oxymoron I know. Very very nice.
I love wicker chairs. I think they do add some charm to a porch. It is fun to watch people walking by. When I lived in NYC, I would sit on my terrace and see all sorts of interesting interactions. I even witnessed a couple of heated arguments! It was better than the movie of the week some days :)
Beautiful. Sets a wonderful mood. (It seems almost impossible it could be August already)
August? *sigh* Time to prepare for the summer's hottest heat down here in lower Alabama :)
A porch like this would definitely be a peaceful retreat. I don't have one, but I've been borrowing a friend's a lot lately. Nothing like a big porch with a couple of good friends - sharing stories and laughing together.
I'm intrigued by those windows! What must they look like from the inside? From the photo they look long & lean, and with an all brick house, it should be nice anc cool inside. Great porch!
I agree, those chairs are quite inviting. Most importantly, however, they are well captured. Nice work! :)
Lly...Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I appreciate your kind words.

Septembermom...one time when I was visiting New York City...myself and a friend spent one of the "those" afternoons at a a sidewalk cafe/bar. Both of us being visitors we naively stayed at the bar after dark. Talking and preoccupied with our conversations and watching people. Everything was fine until dark and then the traffic on the sidewalk suddenly changed from casual passerbys to gang members sporting pit bulls!
A naive tourist like me in the big city can be dangerous! But I still l love New York City.

Tricia...for us the hottest weather of the Season will hit this month. I know you have been struggling with it all Summer. I really like Summer but my favorite Season if I had to choose would be Autumn.
Dan
Heather...that is nice thing about porches...they are built to be shared.
Dan
Shabbygirl...that is right...the windows run the whole length of the walls. Nice for open viewing and letting in that Spring and Autumn breeze when open!

Oh! I'd love to be sitting there sipping on a glass of iced-tea right now...chatting and laughing with a friend.
Very nice.
Wicker is a favorite of mine~~~it captures my eye. I grew up on the West Coast and would drive from Reno to San Francisco to the Pier. I would buy wicker baskets, wicker chairs, wicker tables, wicker settees...wicker, wicker, wicker.
I still have a few pieces in my house!
;^)
(I like how you have the tree framing the top of the photo, too. Nice.)

Cynthia...we are wicker lovers also...so much so that we had a filly born one time when we had quarter horses...She was palamino and we named her Golden Wicker!

I love your narrative Dan. You took me there for a moment. I could actually feel the atmosphere you laid out and the photo adds a nice touch. The grayscale(?) and grainy feel gives way to a reminiscent mood, almost a step back in time. Hope I'm making sense, still need coffee :)
Pura...to me...you make all the sense in the world!....even without coffee!
