Santa's Helpers

As we move towards Christmas...flashes of early memories often resurface...back to a time long ago when my childhood innocence let me believe without the hindrance of logic and practicality.

I wanted so much to visit the workshops of Santa's helpers and roam freely through the bright colors, shiny tin toys and wooden puzzles. I never needed to figure out how the helpers could get so many wondrous toys to all the children on Christmas morning. It was just a fact that I never questioned and how wonderful it was to linger in that wonderland of a child's dreams. So many different surprises...textures of red wrapping paper, metals shaped into magical stars and names tags that read "From Santa...to Dan". There was a mechanical monkey that would clash it's cymbals together bobbing it's head to and fro. Drums and Davey Crockett rifles that would take me and my cousin to the Alamo fighting Indians down by the ice covered creek near our house.

Santa's helpers worked tirelessly year 'round preparing for the big day. Back then...a year lasted so long...from one Christmas to the next seemed like an eternity. Each Christmas I try to go back to those days but it just isn't the same as it was on those cold Christmas Eve nights seen through the eyes of a child.

Dan, I love your pictures here... About the childhood memories though I find myself in the same kind of "crash" as I did last week at another blog... I wrote a blog-post about it yesterday - I think I shall have to ask you to read that! ;) (I have been and will be writing a lot about traditions during Advent and Christmas.)

Great photos with bright colours. Christmas through the eyes of a child is a lovely thought... though the age of innocence is quickly fading. Kids are getting more and more "logical" these days... at younger ages too.

Beautiful photos, beautiful words full of wonder and light. I remember when, too, Dan...

I caught a glimpse of childhood again today as I brought Lucien to preschool. I was standing there waiting for him when I noticed one of the children looking up at the posting wall. The teacher posts themed wall art on this section and it was full of paper craft made gingerbread men, filled with glitter and smiles.

I remember those days and it makes my heart smile :)

Loved this post.

This is a wonderful series of pictures, not your typical elves!
The mechanical monkey...I had one of those too! He'd get banging the cymbals so hard he'd fall over!
With all the high tech toys today, it's kind of sad that kids miss out on such simple pleasures.

Oh Lord! What you can do with a photograph! Just beautiful.
If only every child could feel that innocence and anticipation; the warmth and love of Christmas...

Sunny...the monkey! Great...it was awesome wasn't it!

Even the kids toys of today like GI Joe are high tech!

Thanks Shabbygirl...that first picture is one of my favorites. I just could never figure out where to use it but it dawned on me that he could be a Santa's helper!

Cool pictures Dan! Kids would get a kick out of these elves. I love when kids get into the spirit of Christmas.

Yes Dan, what a wonderful time of innocense when everything seemed possible and magical.
I catch glimpses myself sometimes of a time that has long past for me and it still gives me a feeling of happiness, now I see the magic through the eyes of my two grandchildren, so I am blessed. ♡

Septembermom...Kids are the best thing about Christmas on Christmas morning!

Dianne...you ARE blessed! The chance to see Christmas through the eyes of your grandchildren must be so satisfying. Although plenty old enough...no grandchildren yet for us but I look forward to the day!

Sandra...thanks for the kind words! This was an elderly artisan couple who were beautiful weavers. Their work was on display and each had their own part in the process. A lasting and true partnership!

What a beautiful set of photos. I especially like the one of the hands working the loom (or whatever it is called). Very nice!

Thank you Ree...yes this was an elderly couple who had been weaving for years as a team.

I remember having these questions about Santa's Toy Shop. There is a movie that we watched when my girls were little that depicts this perfectly. I will have to look for the movie...can't remember the name of it!

Dan Felstead said...

Cynthia...I can't thin of it either but didn't it have Robin Williams in it?

It's "Santa Claus: The Movie" (1985) and has Dudley Moore in it! I found the trailer on youtube. I love this movie! The premise of how they find the North Pole, the Toy Shop, the Santa in this movie (he's so believable!) It may be a bit sappy, but I love this one!
;^)
Now I'm going to have to go rent it.
;^) (Hope our video store still has it!)
