The fence has seen its better days.

Over the years, the old fence has seen many snowfalls, rains and held up under the spring vines and summer goldenrod trying to suffocate its very existence. All things in nature have their life cycles and this has run its course. Fences often keep things out or keep children from venturing outside of their safety zone.

Other fences such as snow fences serve very practical purposes as well. They can help prevent avalanches or block snow from interstates by providing a barrier in which the snow builds up and doesn't pass onto the highway. Whether it is a snow fence, privacy fence, picket fence, barbed wire fence or a webbed wire fence...there is something about human nature that requires a fence. Either literally or psychologically...fences provide us with our own space and separate us from the world outside our comfort zone.

This is such a pleasant picture to look at, I find it very calming. The sky is especially lovely in a moody way.

Dan, your images really are truly spectacular!
As for fences; we all need a little enclosure of our own from time to time to keep the world at bay ;-)

Sunny...I liked the sky also...it would even be a nicer sky if it was over a warm green field!

Love the "worn and weathered" feeling about this.

Thanks Dawn Treader...the part of the image that caught my eye was the contrast of the dark sky and bright snow. Your comment about worn and weathered is so true...the house just out of sight was falling in on itself!
