The Cades Cove Baptist Church was built in 1827 by some of the original settlers of this peaceful cove tucked away in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee.

If you ever visit the cove, be sure to note the names on the graves because these names are prominent in other parts of the settlement. Many of the families are buried here that farmed and homesteaded the cove. This church has always had a special place in our hearts. About 30 or so years ago...my wife and I spent several years creating wooden lath pictures...artistic renderings made out of used wood laths and the first picture we made was of this church.

Such a simple church...no sky-scraping spires or stained glass windows but I am certain God heard the prayers from within these walls just as loudly as a high mass in St. Peter's square.

Have a great Saturday.

It's a beautiful picture with those colourful autumn leaves in the background. And I love that little open tower with the bell visible.

A beautiful shot! I can just imagine your excitement of the first project, that church.
It would be fun to see that shot in different seasons. I'll bet it's just a beautiful.

Beautiful. I've walked among those graves many a-times. It's funny, I recognized the scene before ever reading your narrative. :)

Hope you had a great weekend!!

Dawn Treader...I have always felt that is what make this church so unique...the simplicity and the bell tower.

Shabbygirl...it was the simplicity of the church that encouraged us to try it in a lath picture...being that it was our first try...it was a great subject.
