Ticket out of here....

Now in disrepair...the Greyhound Bus Station still stands a a reminder of past decades when the blue retro buildings were spread throughout the country...their streamlined buses took so many 50's, 60's and 1970's travelers through small town America stopping in each small community to pick up their passengers.

I once took a long bus ride...Evansville to New York City. I was 21 and on my way to Europe to study French for a summer session in Geneva. The summer session ended and I stayed on for a few more months hitching my way through Europe. The bus ride is part of an experience I will never forget and am glad I had the chance to see this side of travel. I actually left from and returned to this bus station...it marked the beginning of my coming of age...the person who returned was quite different from the person who left months earlier. More about that in another post perhaps.

I'm thinking of that old Marilyn Monroe movie, "Bus Stop", as I type. Great pictures. As a writer, I think many interesting stories probably were found on those long bus trips.

Sorry Dan dear I have been very busy and have neglected you.
I cannot see your photos as I am having problems at present with my computer loading images, I should imagine they are as lovely as always with a story to tell.
Such a lovely recollection of yourself as a young man, leaving on a bus and travelling to a new world of discovery. How exciting it all must have been travelling around Europe, so many wonderful things to see and experience.
Looking forward to the next post of the young man who was coming of age. xoxo ♡

Oh, I'd love to hear about that experience! I remember riding on a long bus ride as a little kid, going to Disneyland. Great photos!

Septembermom...I agree. So many lives pass through these places...some never to return again...just moving forward in a life.

Shabbygirl...I take it that was back in your California days? Bus trips are unique for sure.

Whoa! Dizzy me not, Sir! Looking straight-on at my Monitor upon these fine Photos, verily it seems to me that I look up.

I have therefore misstepped Mightily and with the heel of one Shoe, knocked o'er faithful Woofly's kibbel dish!

I reprove and approve!

Like... wow!

In Brief,
Sir Percy Bisque Silley (Knighted)

It always make me sad to see these wonderful old buildings fall into disrepair, it seems like such a waste. Thank goodness they are being preserved through your lens.

J...um...Percy...I love it...although I am truly sorry about Woofy's kibble dish! I can just see you stumbling through the room looking up and kicking it!

Sunny...the old buildings are disappearing all around me. An old house downtown that I posted on the blog last year is now gone...nothing but a gravel parking lot full of rusted nails and pieces of roofing now.
