It's Baby Season....

I had just dropped off Karen for a wool rug hooking class. I headed about an hour east searching for the Amish community. I pulled into the local post office...a one room facility...small enough that the postmaster knew all of the locals. I told her what I was looking for and she said "any of the east/west gravel roads crossing the two lane blacktop will take you into the heart of the Amish." "You will know the Amish farms...no electricity and it is Baby Season".

I stopped along the road as a farmer passed by being led by two massive Percheron horses and trailing a crop sprayer. As he passed, we struck up a conversation. The Amish do not use any modern electric or gas powered vehicles to tend their farms. They depend solely on the Percheron...horses bred for working the fields. Springtime is the Baby Season. Most of the mares give birth during April/May. They were everywhere...both sides of the gravel lanes...up close and on the horizon. I knew it was the beginning of a beautiful day.

Tomorrow a look at some of the farms...pristine vegetable gardens...fields full of spring flowers.

Everytime I see wonderful pictures like these I ooh and aah and make a total 'foal' of myself.
These truly are excellent.

These photographs are so lovely Dan, baby animals are always so beautiful and these foals are especially so ... I think horses are such noble animals, I love their muzzles, whiskers and those big eyes and long eyelashes. xoxoxo ♡

I would have stood at that fence all day. Baby has a curly tail, just like momma! What wonderful photos!

Thank you Dianne...we used to raise horses and foals were always such a treat just to watch as they tried to walk for the first time.
