Toto...We're not in Kansas anymore...

First of all...there was no tornado...warnings and watches yes...but thankfully no tornado.

It was the end of the day on Saturday...the storm had been building all day...threatening my photo trek. 4 hours of breathtaking countryside landscapes, huge Percheron draft horses, brilliantly blue skies with white puffy clouds...darkening as the day came to it's end.

I chose black and white for these images because by the time the storm was upon me the colors of late spring had faded to grays, blacks and a slight hint of green in the air. Flashes of lightning the boiling fast moving clouds reminded me of the overwhelming power of a Midwest Spring thunderstorm. The energy was flashing brilliant white and amber overhead. Quite a change of pace from the pastoral landscape surrounding me earlier in the day.

But I am getting ahead of myself...tomorrow I will tell you why I was here...about 2 hours from home and the 4 hours I spent photographing this storybook community.

Thanks Sunny...if there ever was a reason for black and white...I think these fit the bill.

I think I've heard somewhere about the sky turning weird colors before a tornado. Is it green?

Dan Felstead said...

Shabbygirl...yes...a definite green tint was in the air...I have been told that the hail or ice crystals in the clouds reflect light and cast this greenish tint. A sure sign that a tornado is in the works.

I can verify that!!! Last week when the tornadoes went through Oklahoma, we had two warnings within an hour...there was the strangest eerie green glow...I had seen it before, but this time, it was extremely profound. I wrote on Facebook that I thought we were in The Emerald City!

Very dramatic photos, and I like the way you also brought that shade of colour into the black and white.
