Back to School at any age....

For decades each September...I never lost that "back to school" feeling in my bones. Each Fall semester...I felt a tugging a pulling back to the campus. Well this year...I gave into those feelings. I am back in school. Taking as much French as I can...upper level courses...french film class, french club...I am trying to immerse myself as much as I can in the culture and language as I can. After 40 years of not using the language...it leaves you. It is up there somewhere but in a fog bank! Gradually, step by step the fog is clearing and the grammar rules and vocabulary are coming back. I need to take a comprehensive test in January in order to get my teaching license...meanwhile I am substitute teaching in French. Wish me luck...at my age I need all the help I can get!

I know the feeling, Dan. I still have it even though neither pupil nor teacher now. I do wish you luck with the French. (Or should I say Bonne Chance?) I'm sure you'll do just fine. But I know what you mean about the fog bank, too. I have a lot of my German in there as well (not to mention my French).

PS. I forgot to ask: What IS that thing in the first picture?!

Bonne Chance, I admire your determination. I wish I had kept up with my Spanish and German.

WOW! I am so impressed! I have no doubt that you will do well. You don't strike me as the kind of person that does anything half-heartedly.
Good Luck!

Dawn Treader...I am sure you can identify with the challenge of learning another language...you do so well with your English. I only wish my French was as good as your English.

Dawn Treader that is the goalpost on a football field and the object next to it is a "blocking" dummy. Blocking dummies are used for the players to practice their drills by blocking and pushing the sled as far as they can without loosing contact with it.

In the States, football is closely connected with back to school times of the year. Thus the connection of the football image with the school buildings.

Sorry about the confusion!

Sunny...it is so hard living in the States to keep up with a second language since the country speaks one main language but without a doubt...those parameters are changing here in the states. Just ask anyone in California or the other southern border states!

Dan, we don't have your kind of football in Sweden. I have of course seen glimpses of it in American movies but I never paid any attention to what the goal looks like! (Sports of any kind... not really my 'thing'...) What we call football you probably call soccer.

Dawn Treader...you are right your Football is our Soccer. I am not too much of a sports person either. I usually go to a high school or college game once a year and that is about enough.
