I arrived too late but I swear I could still hear the remnants of the early afternoon. Music, the kind of music that gives strangers permission to connect for the first time.

There is something about the atmosphere of an intimate gathering around a poet or musician that opens up the avenues of discussion. I could hear echoes of politics some local and some national, the decline of education or perhaps a future of hope for our children's children.

Not unlike another Upper Room we know of...I think that covenants were probably made and everyone left this upper room having had the chance to be a part of something intensely personal.

I love your writing that goes along with these photos. It is so true how intimate these settings can be. Love your pictures.

Thanks Dani...
This was in a small building in a very small town near me...a small artist community. I have visited New York and Chicago quite a bit in the past for a former job and always tried to make it to the small off the beaten path coffeehouses..places where you could sit for hours, listen, think and talk with no inhibitions or worrying about what other would think and other felt free to do the same. I only wish it were more like that in our everyday lives.

Wonderful photo and commentary, Dan. It does look great in sepia tones!

Lynda,
I toned down the colors in the image because I came to the realization that it wasn't the room...it was about what went on in the room that added the intrigue. The only bright color in the room were the white chairs.
