When I saw this house, I knew it had to be black and white. The Victorian lines and surrounding tress reminded me of a southern house of out a Faulkner novel.

So many rooms and hallways and dark rooms for children to play in, hide in, get lost in... it had a foreboding feeling to it. It seemed to me to be a house that is hiding something. Stern and truly a Victorian personality. I noticed that the house is presently being lived in but some of the windows are shuttered tight. Is there something in this house more than meets the eye? Probably not, maybe it was just the mood I was in when I took the picture...a dreary threatening storm was heading in just west of the river.

Dan, you've inspired me again - I love this photo! I have an obsession with old homes and old barns.

This house reminded of a house I'm writing about in a new children's book I'm working on. You can check out the post here:
My Muse and MeIs this photo of the same house you posted on Thursday? It's hard for me to look at them side by side, but I do see some similarities.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Finally, I am here without any bother at all :o). Dan, this house does carry a feeling of initial hesitation to explore, for me.

I often think of you when I see houses that I find intriguing, inviting or just cozy and beautiful. Wanting to stop and remember the look of it, but not sure of what the person on the inside might think to see me out there...taking photos of their home. I suppose I haven't found that confidence yet, huh? It will come with time and experience, I imagine.

I admire your abilities :o)

It reminds me of a setting for a Hawthorne story. Dan, you have a gift for finding structures with something to "say" to those who take the time to notice.

What a cool house! Although, it does remind me a little of the Adams Family house. Or does my memory fail me?

Bobbi,
Thank you for your comments on the inspiration. I am really glad that one of my images help inspire. I read your story on your blog and it sounds like the beginning of a very interesting novel.

Thanks,

Dan

Heather,

I actually was taking pictures of an old house one time that I thought was abandoned and as I was taking a picture of some torn curtains in a window...an old man pulled them back and we were staring face to face! F reeked me out! I got what I deserved...should have respected privacy.

It's a gorgeous photo, Dan, and you treated it well, in B & W! I like your text and agree that the place looks forboding, approaching storm or not.

We took a ride through an old Maine town today, and I found one of those "out-of-time" houses too! Can't wait to work up those shots and post some!

Thanks for the inspiration!
