Yet another porch!

I know...I have this thing about porches. Even the most modest of homes often have porches. Each homeowner brings their own personalities to their porch. It can be a wooden porch on a log cabin in the forest with an awe inspiring view or a small concrete slab with a view of the sidewalk such as this one but each provides a respite from the daily grind and each has their own sense of solitude and reflection.

This is actually a portion of a larger image that I cropped out for today's post. I will be posting the entire image on July 4th. When you visit on the 4th...look for the porch in context with the rest of the image. It is part of a typical all American small town street as we begin preparations for the classic American Summer Holiday.

I love it. It's so inviting. It looks like it could have been taken on any street in any small town. Maybe even mine. I've always wanted a big front porch, like the one from your last porch post. But you've illustrated here that even the smallest stoop can offer a comfortable retreat.

Heather...thanks.

We all have those streets in our town where nothing important is going on...no commerce, no statues, no coffeehouses...just homes that people have lived in their entire life. It is best that these areas be left alone and left to proud homeowners who value home and family.

I love the texture of this one! I'm a big wrap-around porch kind of gal. I've never had one, but I love the idea of it!

I like the wraparounds also. I saw a farmhouse the other day with a porch on three of the 4 sides. I wish I would have taken a picture...I may revisit it.

Dear Dan,
I love it. (What don't I love about porches, barns, windmills, historic homes, fences...etc...etc...etc...???)
(That's why I come here!)
:^)
The dappled texture on this one and the way the light plays on it is fascinating!

Thanks...I try to vary my subjects but always get drawn back to these!

A porch is a wonderful sanctuary. I can't help but think of all the conversations and naps that probably took place on that porch over the years. A great spot to enjoy the moment. The photo is really cool.

Yep, I'll bet there has been a first goodnight kiss, a delivery of milk in glass bottles, children playing with their dolls and trucks and neighbors in conversation ...all on this small porch over the years.

This reminds me of a pencil sketch and creates a feeling of simplicity, Dan. I don't get exhausted from your photos - porch settings, houses, people, places, things...it's all good :)

Vermont Heather...
I am glad...because there is another porch coming up in a couple of days! I have porches on the brain right now!

Dan,

I with you. I love porches. Certain scenes invite you in. Porch scenes do that. I like shots from behind the porch chairs looking out (but those are harder to get). A shot down a road or pathway gives that inviting flavor too. (I wonder if looking out a window or doorway would do it too?)

Enjoying your photos and prose,

Don

Thanks Don....for stopping by. I have been tempted to do the behind the chair shot but afraid that the porch owner would not appreciate me up on their porch! Although at your suggestion...I may just ask permission and try it!
