After my somewhat depressing post yesterday, I thought I would lighten things up today. Last week Septembermom mentioned that she would like to see a picture of King...my "Hunting" companion that I mentioned in an earlier post. As I was looking for his picture...I began to come across old photos that reinforced to me how important animals have always been in my life.

The short life span of animals allows us to mark our time...our past...our stages that we go through in this life. With each passing...many times begins a new phase in our life. If you are looking for great quality photos....today is not the day to find them here...these photos span about 50 years. Today is about perspective on the blog. I have mentioned in past posts about how I used to game quarter horses, how the cabin that Zach and I stay in at Lake of the Woods on our treks to Canada is the same cabin I stayed in as a child etc...As you scan the photos, you will see my mother and our Afghan Hound on that porch of the same cabin in an earlier post, the first photo is King...my hunting companion (not much of a hunting dog...but to me he was the greatest), my wife Karen with Baron the Afghan Hound, Scooter...our present Wheaten Terrier, me and Karen on our horses (mine is the barrel horse I used to game with), a photo of me beginning to break a young quarter horse for saddle...Just a snapshot of my past and my connections to animals. Many of the things I have mentioned on my past blog posts.

Tomorrow, I will get back to my normal photo posts but today, since we have gotten to know each other over the past 1o months...I thought I would bring you into my world...at least my past world.

Enjoy your Sunday and see you next week.

Dan

Dan, THIS is one of my most favorite posts yet :) - You must know that for me. I love the history of people, the story of their lives - these photos may not carry the clarity that your others do, in a photograph...but they carry a clarity of your life, your love for it, very clearly.

Yes, one of my most favorite!

Your wife is GORGEOUS!! That photos of the two of you and the ones with her and the dog are breathtaking to me. Sweet, beauty and togetherness.

Thank you for sharing these with us, Dan. More please??!! Please??!!

Love to you.

Dan! I love all of these photos!!! But my very FAVORITE is the third photo of you saddle breaking the blonde horse! Oh man! There is a wildness in it that speaks to me. Maybe it's the mane, I don't know. Just gorgeous!

Shabbygirl...that was back when I had the agility to attempt it! I still enjoy riding but I'm afraid that the days of breaking horses is in my past. The filly in the picture is the offspring of the horse that my wife is on in one of the other pictures.

Horses and dogs....I just can't pick a favorite photo---they are SO lovely!
We had horses growing up---now...here I am in farm/ranch country and don't have one!
Afghans are royal-looking dogs. ...and Scooter---LOVE his clip---my sister-in-law has a Wheaten named Baxter---he is VERY furry and curly. ;^)
Thank you, Dan, for sharing.
