Yesterday...Zach called and said we have to go take pictures. He said "I have a real treat for you"!
Thrilled at the prospect of going out on a shoot with Zach...I packed up and met him for the adventure. He took me over to the campus where he goes to College and told me about "The Bunker". After about 45 minutes of walking ...we finally arrived.
I had told him earlier in the year that I was looking for some good graffiti to take pictures of because of the creativity and colors involved. I even went to a train yard hoping to find some graffiti on the some of the cars but no luck.
Yesterday, we hit the jackpot! We had to crawl through some ankle deep water and Eureka...there it was. This is spillway for one of the lakes at the University. Down underneath...even with the water level was this hidden treasure of creativity. I was in heaven. I was also thrilled at the prospect of Zach wanting to shoot pictures. He took one of my cameras and had at it. That is why there is finally a picture of me! I am always taking the pictures and not the subject!
Anyway a great Saturday played out as we "played"...about 5 0r 6 hundred pictures worth.
Have a great Sunday.

I'm often angered when I see the occassional tag on someone's fence, but I agree with you, there is some fantastic graffiti art out there! Look at the eyes toward the top, and the sun!
And how cool that Zach wanted to share it with you! See? They do come back!
Shabbygirl...yep...it was a treat!

Amazing! I don't think I've seen so much graffiti in one place. The eyes really caught my eye!
What a great time to share with your son.
Very enjoyable post.
Sunny :)
The color is amazing in these shots. What a find for you and Zach. Glad that you enjoyed this special time together!
Wow, that's colourful! Sounds and looks like a great father-son-day, too! :)
Sunny...When Zach took that picture of me...he asked me if I saw the eyes...of course I did but when I got home and looked at it on the computer...I noticed that it was not only eyes but an entire face!
Dan
Septembermom...it was one of those calls out of the blue...he had never expressed a lot of interest in photography before but he sure did yesterday!
Dan
Dawn Treader...it was a fun day for the both of us.

This is a wonderful post, Dan...the shot of your son using your camera is great and to see you is also a treat :)
I have a photo for you - who'd have thought that I took this and someone would actually want to see it :)
I'll share it on my blog in a day or so, and refer to this post.
You should have called me. I would have caught the next plane.
I saw those eyes, lips and chin right away. I love the peace sign.
Fantastic shoot. I am envious.
Heather...you have my curiosity in turmoil! Can't wait to see the pic! I will be away from the computer all day tomorrow but will check from Tuesday on.
Dan
Thanks Patty! Fly in anytime! Hope you had a great weekend.
Dan
...this is pretty darn cool......color, creativity...interesting!
you crawled through yucky water to get there?
wow.
excellent photos. I still don't know if I'd go through water though...specially water that is in a sewer like contraption.
I need boots. Knee high, steel toe, waterproof, rugged hiking boots that I can walk in and not clomp around.
If I had boots like that, I'd go through the water. LOL!
Seriously, great photos!
oh, that bit about finally a photo of you - I look awful in photos, which is why I hide in the perfect spot: behind the camera!
Really fantastic! And you got to go on a shoot with your son-- even more fantastic. The shots are wonderful. Glad you two had your day and I hope it leads to many more of the same kind.
It's so cool! I guess crawling in ankle deep water really paid off.
Kelly...thanks. Sorry I am late in getting back to you...I was tied up for most of the weekend. The color is what grabbed me when we stepped underneath "The Bunker".
Dan
Jen it is funny you mentioned the yucky water...like a typical mother - when we got home...the first thing my wife said "Isn't there germs down there?"
Also...maybe that is why we like photography ...so we don't have to get our pictures taken!
Dan
Thanks Tricia...sorry about getting back to you so late...I was out most of the weekend. It was a neat day with Zach...especially since he initiated it!
Dan
Lly...it was well worth it. I may have said on the post that we crawled through the water...if I did...I misspoke...we actually had to "walk" through the water.

Something happens to you when you become an adult. It has nothing to do with age, it's more about experience. My mother and I used to fight like tomcats. Then--one day--it just stopped. I think we both grew up.
I've been looking for a good graffiti site to photograph, as well. As much as I don't like the defamation, I do appreciate the artistry. The colours are so vibrant. And there's something almost erotic about the undulating swirls.
Great pictures of each of you!
Monica...I think you made a profound point...."We both grew up". There came a time between the two of us that I realized I had to let go...when that happened...things changed. I grew up as well. Thanks for putting it into words.
