My grade school days were in the mid to late 50's era. I loved the black and white Frankenstein movies. The werewolf was also a winner in my book. But for me it was the Mummy and all of it's sequels...The Mummy Returns, The Mummy's Revenge, The Curse of the Mummy...it went on and on!

All the "monster movies" even to this kid were a bit unbelievable. But for some reason...watching the Mummy movies on the "Late Late Show" was unnerving to me. They seemed like with a bit of imagination...they could be real. There was many a night I went to bed holding my breath and listening to every slightest sound in the room until sleep took over and put me out of my misery.

The mummy in this post was taken in a yard in Evansville. I thought it to be a very good rendering of what I saw in my mind's eye while lying in bed those nights after the "Late Late Show".

That's quite a mummy! I like the full moon it really adds to the creepiness.
We didn't have TV when I was a little girl in England but my uncle would tell scary stories and then I'd go to bed and be afraid of what might be lurking in the darkness. I enjoy watching the old scary movies but not today's with all the violence and gore.

Not quite the picture I'd like to have on the inside of my eyelids when going to sleep! I'm looking now in broad daylight ;)
However if you like a good mummy story here's the link to The Ring of Thoth by no other than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (also author of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries)
Go scare youself if you must...!

(I came across that story in my Spectrespecs life...)

I usually avoid the scary stuff (I remember my daughters insisting that I watch Sixth Sense and I couldn't stop thinking about it for DAYS!!!)...I'm way too squeamish...but I just could not resist peaking in at your work here.

Sunny ...like you, I enjoy the old movies as well but I have never been interested in the new "slasher" movies like Halloween, Freddy etc....just unnecessary violence and gore.

Thanks Cynthia for taking your life in y our hands! The movie that I wish I had nver watched was Arachnophobia. I have an unhealthy fear of spiders to begin with and after watching that movie...just like you...I couldn't get the images out of my mind. I will never watch it again. Just talking about it freaks me out!
