To put the image in context...you can see the greenhouse in the upper right hand side of the picture.
This small fenced in area was an oasis of vibrant growth, solitude and an invitation for reflection. There are small tucked away areas like this all across the small village of New Harmony. If one was to see this from the air...one would see 4 leaf covered paths leading to the small center fountain. Curious observation would show that only one of the paths allow entry to the center. You can see the circle of foliage surrounding the fountain with only one entry and that is from this path. My thoughts settled on past wisdom...there are many paths to take but only one is the true path that leads to salvation...fulfillment...completion. This is something that I have struggled with all my life...I see it, I read it, I hear it...but so hard to unconditionally accept it with a worldly mind. I have a strong suspicion that it is in fact true.......I wonder if the designer of the small nature garden had this in mind.
It struck me that the larger trees were slowly being absorbed by the ground cover...they are standing as sentinels surrounding...protecting the center fountain as if they know the importance of the metaphor and are slowly themselves coming to this conclusion as have I.
Strange how these thoughts crossed my mind while here...not that I tried to overlay some order on the scene...on the contrary...the order was overlaid on MY mind.

Beautiful image, Dan, and astute commentary. The photo is so romantic and yet a little foreboding at the same time, and by your account, the place stands as a good metaphor.
