To put the image in context...you can see the greenhouse in the upper right hand side of the picture.
This small fenced in area was an oasis of vibrant growth, solitude and an invitation for reflection. There are small tucked away areas like this all across the small village of New Harmony. If one was to see this from the air...one would see 4 leaf covered paths leading to the small center fountain. Curious observation would show that only one of the paths allow entry to the center. You can see the circle of foliage surrounding the fountain with only one entry and that is from this path. My thoughts settled on past wisdom...there are many paths to take but only one is the true path that leads to salvation...fulfillment...completion. This is something that I have struggled with all my life...I see it, I read it, I hear it...but so hard to unconditionally accept it with a worldly mind. I have a strong suspicion that it is in fact true.......I wonder if the designer of the small nature garden had this in mind.
It struck me that the larger trees were slowly being absorbed by the ground cover...they are standing as sentinels surrounding...protecting the center fountain as if they know the importance of the metaphor and are slowly themselves coming to this conclusion as have I.
Strange how these thoughts crossed my mind while here...not that I tried to overlay some order on the scene...on the contrary...the order was overlaid on MY mind.

Very, very nice, Dan - definitely a post that creates thought...
I like it ;)
You did get me thinking. Great post. Lovely photo Dan!
Your picture reminds me of a Thomas Kinkade painting. Simply lovely. I have to ponder your narrative; it's been a long day.
Sunny :)
Oh this is a beautiful picture! Its looks like a very tranquil place. =]
Oh, Dan, this photo is absolutely breathtaking.
It just exudes peace....
;^)
I would love to go there and pray...or sleep...or both.
Dan, the narrative together with this picture... they're really powerful, and each brings out the other!
If the designer really also consciously had all this on his mind in creating the place... Then it's a real masterpiece, if it also manages to get the message through...
Oh my. Great post. I like the way you write. You should write a book. Beautiful photo.
I posted your "winner" photo on the blog this morning and in the process decided to check out your blog. As I was reading, my son walked into my office, saw your photo and declared, "WOW, that's BEAUTIFUL!" Thanks for getting our day off to such a lovely start.
Thanks Heather..the walk that day had so many surprises and this was one of them.
Dan
Septembermom...thanks for the comment about food for thought! It certainly had my mind wondering.
Dan
Sunny...thank you so much for the comparison to Kinkade! That is quite an honor in my opinion. I wish I could even come close to his work. One thing we have in common is that we both like to paint with light.
Dan
Thank you "I like to write"...I appreciate you stopping by and commenting!

Cynthia...it really was a peaceful place...actually the whole day was peaceful.

Sabrina...good to hear from you again! I think either sleep or pray would be a good choice here!
Dan
Dawn Treader...thanks. There was a sign at the entrance to the garden. I took a picture of it...I am going back to the sign and see what it says...it may shed some light.
Dan
Thanks Lly...if I write a book...at least I will have one reader!
Dan
Teddy...thanks for the kind words on your blog. Also, my wife teaches and plays piano so I will tell her about the piano site.

Beautiful image, Dan, and astute commentary. The photo is so romantic and yet a little foreboding at the same time, and by your account, the place stands as a good metaphor.
I have trouble finding a single path, too! It's hard to narrow one's focus....
Lynda...good to hear from you again. Maybe we are both ADD????
