Most medium to larger cities in the U.S. have their old courthouses still in the center of a town square as a relic to history and the new "Civic Center Complexes" now replace the old building.

The Courthouse in Evansville is no different. It is not being used anymore. The doors to most of the rooms are locked and the rooms appear to be lost in another time and place. Paint peeling, dust covered chairs and old wooden floors in need of repair just wait for time to slowly erode away the past glory of flourish, pomp and circumstance. These pictures of the interior were taken through dusty and fingerprinted windows in old oak carved doors. It is as if judges, lawyers and dependents just walked out and left everything in place?

It is a shame to let an old building such as this to the ravages of nature and time. Hopefully if you have an old courthouse in your town...it is better taken care of than ours.

That is really sad. What a magnificent building to be abandoned, they don't build them like they used to.
What is really upsetting to me is when they want to spend millions of dollars on new buildings when they already have perfectly good ones left to go to ruin. It's really a shame.
Sunny :)
P.S. Sorry I didn't mean to rant.

Oh, yes, that is spectacular! Inside and out!!! They really don't make 'em like that any more. I hope that a historical society will come rescue this building. It is just too amazing.

Sunny...Even if you are ranting...I agree! It is a shame that these buildings go to waste.

Cynthia...I think there is a "Save the Courthouse" type association but evidently it hasn't been very active!

What a gorgeous old building - and such a shame that it's not used anymore. I agree with Sunny... I don't see spending absurd amounts of money on new buildings when the old ones are such gems. With a little TLC, they can really shine something magnificent.
