Late nights in an airport always bring a feeling of isolation...almost desperation to me.

The business of the day is behind me, walking through the relatively empty concourses...hopping from a Starbucks to Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs or Skyline Chile then settling in well worn seats and rooms that were standing room only just hours before.

From my vantage point off to the side of the concourse walkway I watch the weary travelers pass by...some stopping to get their bearings...others just walking by with blank stares on their faces. No communication or interaction...just islands unto themselves never looking up as they read their emails, check voice messages, or try just one more time to beat solitaire on the laptop.

Airports are a very different world in the wee hours of the morning.

I love the irony of that word on the car on the poster-or-whatever-it-is on the wall... "Beneficial"

What awesome photos Dan!
I don't think I've ever been in an airport in the wee hours, but ordinarily I kind of enjoy people watching in them. All those lives brushing by one another.

I'm not sure how I missed this post...you have captured the feeling of the moment, a great people study.
I think that 'wee hours' feeling applies to other transportation terminals too. A friend came to visit via bus, which didn't arrive until late and the normally hustle, bustle terminal was downright creepy!
How is Zach these days? I miss seeing his pictures.

Sunny...that is true ...the later it gets...the weirder it gets! You would think I would fit right in!

Zach is working and going to school...he doesn't seem to have the time to post...I am trying to get him to post some more pics but since he is on a roll with school...I hate to interrupt!

Airports can be interesting places to see lives at a standstill or in motion. Great picture.

Septembermom...Speaking of airports...on September 11th...I was in Jersey City at the Hyatt. I couldn't get back to the Midwest of course...3 days later searching for a rental car I ended up at Newark airport Hertz rental. The airport was completely void of cars and people like a ghost town. I never thought I would see such a sight at Newark! I hope I never see it again.
