The old Water Tower building in Chicago built it the 1860's is one of the very few buildings in Chicago that survived the "The Great Fire" that almost leveled the entire city of Chicago.

The urban legend of the Mrs. O'Leary's Cow kicking over a lantern and starting the fire has always been the standing story of how it started but later was found to be made up by a newspaper columnist.

This contrast of the new and the old is another great example of old historic buildings thriving in the midst of some of our largest cities.

I definitely like the old/new contrast!
I remember seeing this building, and thinking it looked like Hogwarts... I love Chicago

Imagine, if the fire had not occurred, how many more might still be standing.

It's a great contrast between old and new. I love the architecture of the water tower building. I can't believe the number of windows in the new structure...glad I don't have to wash them!

Cynthia...I imagine that was quite a loss back then without the adequate fire equipment. The fire spread so quickly because of the building materials of the time.
