The Mountain Dulcimer is both a beautiful instrument to listen to and a very easy instrument to play.

The one pictured is my Dulcimer...handmade by a friend. These types of instruments were plentiful in the homes and gathering places of the early settlers. After using one, I can see why. It is the type of instrument that virtually any one can play upon picking up. Unlike the guitar or piano or banjo...the Dulcimer is made for mountain folk who wanted to have music but didn't have the training or time to practice the more difficult instruments.

The simple sound mirrors the simple lifestyle of it's early proponents. I love all types of music from Mozart to Led Zeppelin or the Black Keys but when I am surrounded by nature, sitting on a back porch looking out over the view...I love the sound of a Mountain Dulcimer.

One piece of trivia you might be interested in...many times when an item is in the process of conceptual design and being tested for future production, it is often given a codename while in testing. Dulcimer was the codename for one of the most popular items in today's culture and I would venture that many of you have one in your home....The Apple Ipod!

I hope you find your music this Saturday and enjoy the day!

Dan, this one is another favorite for me. And...I found my music today as we sang silly songs and silly sounds while making pizza this afternoon. I'll be posting of that in the days to come...watch out...I'm going to share some that were taken of me...oh boy.

That is a beautiful instrument! So mythical in look. This is a great photo. I think it would be very interesting to hear this instrument played in person.

Sunny...I love the dulicmer as well. I can play it but there are others much better than me! My friend makes all types of dulcimers...he does it for the love of the instrument as well as a way to make some money.
