My Worst Nightmare

YUK! I woke up this morning to this monster staring me in the face from our kitchen sink! No matter where you live there are species that haunt you. In the southwest US it may be tarantulas, in the Rockies it may be rattlesnakes but in the Midwest it is Brown Recluse spiders.

I hate spiders and these are the worst..very potent and poisonous. Their bite can cause the flesh to rot off your bones! They are also called violin spiders because of the distinct violin marking on their backs. They say one must confront their fears...well I did this morning. Getting close enough for a macro shot was unnerving.

I am checking my shoes before I put them on!

Brrr, just looking at pictures like these might give me nightmares! Our spiders are not poisonous but they send shudders down my back anyway. I'm not sure I'd be able to take a photo of one. Especially not indoors! (I got some great shots of spiderwebs in the autumn but then there were not actually any spiders in them.)

Well. Dan. This has been very instructive. Thank you so much for scaring the crap out of me this morning! Hahahahahahaha!
Truthfully, I am grateful. I would not have seen the violin had you not pointed it out, and I know these can be deadly.
This photo creeps me out waayyy more than a tarantula. Did you "dispose" of him in the sink?

Yes, isn't it one of the most poisonous! Good for you taking this shot of such a dangerous creature. You probably just gave heart palpitations to those with arachnophobia!

Be careful, Dan. My brother-in-law got bitten by a Brown Recluse several years ago. He has almost lost his leg, has had to have numerous skin grafts and still has problems. Needless to say, I do not like spiders!

When Aubrey was four, she put on a little apron to help me wash the dishes. Guess what was in the apron and bit her little tummy? We spent several scary days with trips to doctors, hospital ERs, shots in the tummy, etc...She was really sick for those few days, but we were grateful for a miracle! She fully recovered with not even a scar on her skin and the flesh never did rot...it was just bright red and rock hard for those few days. In May she will be 25!

Cynthia...WOW...that is too close for comfort! She is a very lucky girl thanks to your foresight and intuition to get her treatment right away!
