Yesterday's post about San Antonio took place in August of 2005 and it was 113 degrees F...The above post also takes place in August of 2005...three days later. I arrived home after days of above 100 temperatures in Texas and told my wife that we were going to Alaska! Within 2 days...we had the fights booked and were on our way...totally unplanned but WOW...what a trip.
"Exit Glacier" is pushing through to Seward Alaska...the final barrier before reaching the Gulf of Alaska. To stand here and see the enormous ice flow inching itself towards the sea is a vision I will never forget. Ever so often one hears a bolting crack of what sounds like thunder...actually it is the ice giving way as it moves on slowly.
I have seen the wonders of nature manifested in flowers, in thunderstorms, landscapes, seasons of the year...but never....never so bold as this.
Alaska is the most beautiful untouched wilderness I have ever had the privilege to view. For this Midwest boy...it was a wonder to behold.

I used to send away for the tourist magazines just to dream myself into the photos!
Shabbygirl...it is well worth the trip...even to cruise up there. When we stayed in Seward...the cruise ships docked there and the passengers we spoke to had a fantastic experience as well.
