Nature's Hummer

By now we have...as many of you probably have...gotten to know our hummingbirds. We have three that visit each day...two females and one male. This is one of the females.

I am taking the pictures this year with a green wire web fence behind them as they visit the feeder and that is what makes the lined background. I then black out the greens of the yard and replace it with black in order to complete the picture. Each bird I have photographed reflects it's own personality. I am still waiting to get a picture of the male and will post it when I have it. I presently have a 20x33 picutre similar to this one exhibit at our local museum until mid August.

Your hummingbird pictures are really great, Dan. I like how you bring that pattern of the fence into the picture and getting the colours to match as well.

So, so beautiful. The make such wonderful subjects, don't they? I always think about how tiny their veins must be. A weird thought, I know, but it's amazing to me.
How cool to have your photo in the museum!!! I'm sure many of your photos could be in there.

Dawn Treader...the fence behind the bird was truly an accident. I didn't plan it that way. After seeing the how the fence made the background...I have several pictures now of hummingbirds against the fence.

Shabbygirl...I think of the picutre you posted with the oriole looking intently at the approaching hummingbird...that was my favorite.

Thanks Dianne...Dawn Treader from Sweden once mentioned that they do not have hummingbirds in Sweden...do you have them in Australia?

Thanks Septembermom...I appreciate the comment. I sometimes worry that posting another hummingbird picture may get boring. But I just can't help myself!

Dan, I remember from your earlier humming bird pictures that you said you didn't think of the fence until afterwards when you saw the photos; but it still takes some talent to make use of it, to make just the fence stand out and the rest of the background "disappear" etc. And since you say the wire fence is green I guess you must have done some colour changes too... or...?
