A Tradition spanning generations....

An entire family...multiple generations walked by me and between them was the most gorgeous little boy in a white robe. Later as I was talking to the family...I asked about the cord coming off the robe. This was authentic 18th century attire and just as today...we see mothers keeping track of their toddlers in malls with the "leash"...the idea came from our predecessors. A good reason for them to have a "leash" to the little ones was to keep them from wandering under fences and under the hooves of oxen, horses or cattle.

I will have more pictures of this little boy...Frank...later in this week or next week but his grandfather was also in the 18th century attire...his grandfather is a park ranger for the historical site.

What a sweet little boy, yes a 'leash' or 'reins' were a good way from keeping your children from wandering off and getting lost or worse. xoxo ♡

Such a dear little boy, although I must confess at first I thought it was a little girl. A sweet face of innocence.
Happy Weekend.

Dianne...there were a few times...at Disney World in particular that my son needed a leash...he wandered off. But once we were re united...I think he learned his lesson!

Sunny...I thought the same thing at first...I think because of the robe. He loved being in front of the camera!

Jean...good to hear from you! Yes it was brutally hot there that day and I don't see how these folks stayed in the uniforms all day...100 percent wool...many of them.

I often wear a white gown just like the little boy...maybe that is why I look like him. Just Kidding!

I never see anyone using a leash on their child nowadays. But I know my mother had me in one when I was little - there are pictures to prove it! ;)

I love this one, too.

The little boy in the white robe has such a sweet face. I like the practice of dressing boys in the white "dresses" in those times. I even have a photo of my father and grandfather wearing them.
I did not know that they used leashes on the children back in those days. It makes very practical sense.
My daughter had to have one for my grand-daughter when she was around 2 (now 7). She took her into a Wal-Mart one day in a rather snooty Texas neighborhood and people gave her horrified looks. I don't think it's bad if it keeps the child safe!!! Isn't it better than the alternative???

Dawn Treader I don't think I had had one on me but we used one with our son. He wasn't crazy about it!

Nieves...welcome to the blog and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! Also thank yo for the kind words. By the way...I know you are from Spain but I don't know what part...I spent some very memorable times in Arynes de Mar north of Barcelona many years ago. Two of the best months of my life!

Cynthia...it was probably someone who didn't have a child...if they did, they would understand the importance of it!
