Contrary to my fear as a child...porcupines cannot throw their quills into an attacker's skin. This evidently is a myth...makes for a good story but not true. However, it is not a myth that a porcupine makes for a perfect black and white picture...at least this one does.
When I converted this to black and white...not much in the image changed...the porcupine was balck and white to begin with and in the dark area in which he was photographed...the other colors were muted as well.
Even though they can't throw their quills...I still wouldn't consider having a porcupine as a lap pet.

So perfect in black and white.
We had a dog that had a close encounter with a porcupine, it was a painful experience!

Love the high contrast here.

I would never get close to, lol. Excellent work, definitely for 'frame it'. Anna :)
We don't have those here but we have hedgehogs. I wouldn't try to get too cosy with those either ;)
Great photo....really makes you notice every detail!
Sunny I bet it was! It wasn't Lucy was it?

Javiz...good to hear from you again. You are right...this was very high contrast.

Thanks Anna...how is your summer going?
Dan
DawnTreader...we have hedgehogs here as well and you are right...very similar. I think the Porcupines are a bit larger.

Thanks Mary...again from a visit to the Zoo!

Thanks for asking, but its hot, humid and rainy, and sometimes cold. This year been really interesting. Sometimes I was wearing to many clothes for hot weather, and too little for cold one - we almost get fooled everyday. Hope all is well otherwise. Anna :)
