Any East-West Crossroad....

Here in the Amish country...biological horsepower outnumbers mechanical horsepower...at least for now.

On the gravel east west crossroad leading into town...the contrast of a Ford Taurus sandwiched between two horse drawn vehicles heralds the encroachment of modernity onto the family farms so long cherished by multiple generations of Amish families in the area. In this image...the battle lines are drawn by the different views lining each side of the road. On the right side the pristine gardens and pastures fill the frame while on the left side of the road...multiple electric poles line up ready for battle...one pole has already crossed the road and the encroachment has begun. Every so often the shadows of the poles are bleeding onto the road towards the gardens and pasture lands almost like scouts sent out to test the defenses on the other side.

Progress is inevitable...even in this area. My hope is that the two societies can meet and exist side by side...each helping the other and each respecting the different lifestyle choices so cherished on both the right and left sides of the road.

Love the 'watercolour' effect.

It's such a pretty area, I hope it retains most of its charm.
I like the effect on this picture :)

Another picture that speaks for itself in it's contrasts. I like the effects of your editing, too.
