Plant or insect?

I didn't consider the final image when I took this of a black and white striped plant...another example of an image that doesn't look much different when converted to black and white.

When I downloaded the image...my first impression was that it almost looks like a close up of some hideous insect or alien creature. I thought this was a Zebra plant but I was mistaken. Zebra plants have green leaves with white stripes. This plant was black and white even before I converted it. I am not sure what it is..couldn't find a picture of it on Google...any ideas?

Have a great Saturday,

Dan

I don't know of any plant that is actually black and white. I couldn't find any in my plant book either.
Whatever it is, it makes an interesting picture.
Have a wonderful weekend.

That is a mystery plant. Very interesting. I'll be curious to see if anyone finds out what it is.

Wow, my first thought when I saw this was "what on earth is it", I couldn't see it if was plant or animal either. Never heard of an actual all black-and-white plant.

Sunny thanks for checking...this plant was at the Zoo...I will ask and let you know. I actually checked back to the original photo again just to make sure it was black and white and not just dark green. It was black as black.

Just stumbled upon your blog and enjoying your photos. Couldn't help taking on the challenge of what this plant is, so Googled it. Could it be this? http://www.michiganbulb.com/product/Black_Mystic_Zebra_Plant_/Annuals_and_Tropicals

The plant is called "Cryptanthus Zonatus". Grossmans Garden & Home in Rochester, NY carries them and sells a ton, especially to the gothic crowd.
