The Old Cathedral

Vincennes is a small community about 1 hour north of where I live.

It is the oldest city in Indiana and also has the oldest church in Indiana. The church was built during the founding days of Indiana as a State. As you look at the 4 large pillars near the altar area...they are constructed of 4 huge poplar tree trunks encased in plaster. These were the days of virgin forests and old growth timber in the Midwest. These types of forests are no longer in existence here.

Also unique about the church is the Last Supper Sculpture. In the full picture of the interior if you look just under the alter...you will see the Last Supper sculpture...very unique and very beautiful. Within these walls, native Indians, Revolutionary War and Civil War soldiers and frontiersmen have worshiped. When you walk through the heavy wooden doors...you can feel the history that has taken place in this area.
