Our Favorites

We humans have the unique ability to craft tools to make up for our shortcomings. A nail can't be driven with our fist so we developed a hammer...when we peel a potato (at least me!) with a knife, much of the potato is lost to carving too deep so someone crafted a potato peeler. No matter what our lot in life...we have our own favorite tools to help us out.

An artist...a painter must create images on a blank slate. Certain brushes create the illusion of long swirling leaves of grass while others softly shade the yellow sunlight. Paddles may create the cleaved edges of rough rocks while a sponge may serve up the foam of a wave breaking on the beach. With these tools artists invite us into their world...often times worlds much different from our own.

This weekend when you step into the kitchen or the garage or the storage building or your car...take a minute to look around at the things we have gathered to make our life easier...more productive..more fulfilling. You may also find some "tools" that at first glance were thought to be helpful but in time have complicated our lives and made them more mundane. Discard those ...but keep your favorites.

Have a great weekend,

Dan

I love this picture, but I can't figure out what those sticks wound with string are used for...
