Congratulations Dawn Treader! Your multiple guesses paid off and Cynthia you were very close...the wolf was white but the albino deer was even more rare and then there was the smell of a wood stove in the air! Dawn Treader just email me at felsteadd@gmail.com with your photo choice and shipping address and when I save enough money for shipping...I will send it to you!
One more day and one more clue...good luck to all!
Dan
This was my very first post on the blog. As I posted it...I wondered if it was just going off into cyberspace and no one would see. My worst fears came true...the next day I think there was one comment. One year later all of your comments keeps me going...thank you.
I could hear the chit chit chit of rain falling on the already frozen ground forming a thick layer of ice. I walked out to soak in the beauty of crystal clinging to every branch. I found myself standing toe to toe with the albino. One chance for the shot, with the click of the shutter, she was gone. I have seen her since but she has never afforded another chance to capture her again. She can only be seen on her terms. Her fleeting image brings to mind the Native American folklore legend surrounding the albino deer. The albino, the crystal ice, the winter's chill and the smell of smoke from a distant wood stove froze this image in my mind and quite literally in the camera.

This first post of yours was the perfect bearer of things to come...
;^)
Yay hooray! That was a tough race yesterday! I'm so glad I managed to get it right. :) I'll get back to you Dan about my choice, there is more than one in my mind that I remember well and really like.
Since I was not with you from the beginning of your blog I don't think I ever looked properly at the albino deer post before yesterday. When I scrolled back and found it, and it struck me that "this was it"... I have to tell you, it was a very special feeling... because the white deer is also special in the Celtic folklore which I've been interested in for a long time. (King Arthur stories etc) Do you remember the end of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe? What brings the children - by then grown up and Kings and Queens of Narnia - back to England is the rumour that a White Stag has been seen in the Western Woods of Narnia. They go on a hunt and they see the stag and they follow it. It is following the stag that brings them back to the lamp post and from there back to the wardrobe.
Some things in life... can really make you wonder about coincidence vs. "meaning"...
Quiet and regal. Wonderful.
Congrats to the lucky winner!
Thanks Cynthia...That first post is always scary...it brings up all those fears that we all probably had...I am putting this out there...but will anybody even care?
Dan
Dawn Treader...I thought I would give you a hard time about the postage...actually I am honored that one of my pictures will end up in Sweden!
That albino deer was as stealthy and eery as the deers of the Celtic folklores. It was seen in our neighborhood for two years...sometimes in the field and I even saw it crossing the road at one point. Now we haven't seen it for over a year. My fear is that someone shot it...that would be a real shame because they are so rare.
Dan
Septembermom...yes it was quite a sight and very difficult to get close to. Even though I saw it probably 4 or 5 different times...this was the only shot I got of it. Now it is gone...haven't seen it for quite a while.
Dan
Dan the heading made me laugh, which I take as an extra bonus...
I just put a post in at my blog referring back here, for one because I'm happy about winning :) but also to comment a bit more about symbolism connected with the white stag, and why this made it "extra special" to win in connection with that picture rather than any of the others.
What a fantastic shot! Really beautiful, Dan. You must have felt like the luckiest man in the world!
Dawn Treader...that is really neat that the one you won with gave that connection. I am glad. I will visit your blog to see the post.
Dan
Shabbygirl...I am glad you saw the albino because I know how you like critters! I WAS lucky to actually get him on an image.
Dan
I see what I'm missing out on. Sheesh! That is one seriously beautiful photo. I feel the crisp, cold winter air.
Dan... I was scrolling through all your pictures again in the process of choosing the one I want... And I happened to notice that now the white deer seems to be missing from the original post???
I know it's an elusive creature but...
Pura...great to hear from you and have a great Thanksgiving with you kids.
Dan
Dawn Treader the disappearance is my fault! I couldn't figure out how to keep the original when I re posted it under a new date. It moved it from then to now???
Dan
Dan, I guessed it had to be something like that. I think the way to do it must be just to copy the whole content from edit-html-mode and paste that into a new post. Then the old post will remain where it is but on the copy you can put a new date. I have not tried but I think you'll be able to reverse that process as well and put an older date on a copy too. Since this was your very first post I think you ought to give it a try!
Dan, another observation: your latest re-posted posts don't show up in the Blogger reading list or in link-lists - at least not with me. I was actually starting to wonder if something had happened because according to what showed up in the lists you seemed not to have been posting anything over the last two days...
Thanks for all the help Dawn Treader. I am so glad you told me...because on my end it looks ok. I am sure it is because I did not re post correctly. Your method of copying the html script sounds correct to me.
I am going back to new photos tomorrow so they should show up on the reader, link lists etc. Do me a favor if you would...if you don't see tomorrows post listed...let me know.
Dan
