Gothic Transelvania Castle?

The night sky and the bright floodlit front of the old building make this look like some old castle from a Dracula movie but in fact is is one of our historic buildings in Evansville. It is our old Post Office building. I don't know how old it is but I have seen post cards from 1906 and it looks like it had some age even then. It is of English architecture origins and is certainly one of the most distinctive buildings in Evansville.

It always astounds me how so much time and effort was put into the old buildings for their aesthetic effects. There is no comparison to a modern post office building and this. Time have changed!

Wow, that's beautiful. And I bet your editing skills play their part in bringing it out as well!

Times have indeed changed and more often than not for the worse, I despair to say. It is because of these changes that I feel we are undoing so many things and loosing vast amounts of knowledge, grandeur, beauty, quality, standards and care (to name but a few things) that are affected by these changes.
But all that aside... This is yet another fantastic image!
It is a comfort to know that there are still people out there who care, take pride in their undertakings and are aware of the world around them.

Yes, a gorgeous building! Today we seem to be all about efficiency, with very little thought to anything creative.
Great shot!

What wonderful architecture, they sure don't build them like they used to. Is it still a post office?

Really impressive building! Wonderful shot Dan. I do feel like Bela Lugosi may answer the door if I came knocking. LOL.

Thanks Dawn Treader...this was a difficult picture to get right and I am still not satisfied with it. The flood lights in front blew out the details in the center of the picture.

S. Barbie...I totally agree. We are losing our heritage a bit each day and so many folks don't seem to care.

Shabbygirl...I also agree with you . I fear that when the future looks back a today's architecture for the most part...they will not be too impressed.

Dan, now that you mention it I see what you mean about the lights but I didn't think about that the first time I saw the picture.

Btw today+tomorrow I'm showing three posts (at IOV) with pictures from an art exhibition I went to see the other day; it's water colour but I think you might enjoy it, the arist (Swedish painter Lars Lerin) is famous among other things for his treatment of dark vs light.
