Chincoteague

Chincoteague lies off the far eastern coast and outer banks of Virginia. This area is dotted with small...some remote islands that depend on the water taxi. He is their connection to the world outside of their door...just beyond the dock and the Atlantic horizon.

The time I spent there flooded me with the memories of the daily existence. The salty taste on my skin from ocean spray, the texture and smell of fresh caught oysters and visions of wild ponies with herons resting on their backs as they grazed among the interior wetlands.

For a Midwest land locked boy like me...it was a world unlike any I had seen before. But what a wonderful world it was.

Mary, it is truly a nice peacefull area. If you google Chincoteague or Asateague...you can see other shots of the area as well with the wild ponies.

Wondrous. ;^) You've reminded me of something that was stuck in the far recesses of the brain. ;^) (There are a lot of those.) ;^-
I read "Misty of Chincoteague" as a child. It was one of my favorite books. I shall have to find it and read it again. ;^)
